After retiring from tennis, Ash Barty will compete in a golf tournament in the United States alongside Michael Phelps and Harry Kane.

Just weeks after retiring from tennis while ranked No. 1 globally, Ash Barty has signed up to play in an international golf event.

The 25-year-old Australian is part of Ernie Els' Rest of the World team for the Icons Series event on June 30 and July 1 at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Last month, Barty announced his retirement from tennis. In January, she won the Australian Open, becoming the third woman to win a Grand Slam singles title after winning Wimbledon last year and the French Open this year.

During a nearly two-year retirement from tennis, she reportedly lowered her golf handicap to 4 and is continuing her diverse approach to sports, including briefly pursuing a professional cricket career in 2015.

Guardiola, Oscar De La Hoya, and Ben Roethlisberger are three of the best quarterbacks in the world.

In the 10-hole team matchplay game against Fred Couples' US squad, which features Michael Phelps, Oscar De La Hoya, and Ben Roethlisberger, Barty will be joined by the likes of Pep Guardiola and Harry Kane, according to Icon Series organizers.

Barty recently won the women's competition at her home club Brookwater, near Brisbane, where she is engaged to Garry Kissick, an Australian trainee golf professional.

Karrie Webb, an LPGA Tour winner with 41 victories, played around with Barty in 2019 and felt the tennis star had the ability to play golf at a high level.

"I could see she'll be a terrific player if she puts some work into it," Webb told the Australian Associated Press.
